Reenrollment

___________________________________

One of the strengths of the Pitt Men's Study is that we have a large and diverse population of men who keep regular appointments over a long period of time. Some of our men, however, have been unable to keep regular appointments and some have not been seen by us for many years. That’s okay. We understand.

Still, we encourage those who haven't been coming in to get back in touch so we can add to our ever-expanding knowledge of HIV, men's health, and the host of other issues that we study.

To refresh your memory, there are two basic studies:

1. Our screening study (Study I) involves completing a short questionnaire and giving one tube of blood for an HIV antibody test. There is no reimbursement for participating in Study I. However, this study does offer free and confidential screening for HIV while gathering data on health, sexual activity, and recreational drug use. If your visits consisted of a short questionnaire and one tube of blood, you were in Study I. This study is also open to the enrollment of new volunteers.

2. Our more intensive studies (Study II and Study III) are almost indistinguishable and include a larger blood draw, a wide variety of blood tests (HIV, T cells, viral load for those with HIV, screening for hepatitis, liver function, kidney function, complete blood count, and more), a physical exam, and a more detailed questionnaire. This study is currently closed to new enrollment, but those who have participated in the past may resume participation at any time. There is a $30 stipend for a basic study visit to cover transportation; those who have a 100 mile or more round trip from their homes to our clinic are eligible for some additional travel reimbursement.

If you would like to resume participation in either study, please call 412-624-2008 or 1-800-987-1963. We’re always glad to hear from you so don’t be afraid to call.
